Obituary for Fred Baxter

Fred Baxter, age 77, of Elkhart, Kansas died Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at his home in Elkhart, Kansas. He was born July 27, 1937 in Karval, Colorado, the son of Eugene and Elsie Baxter.

Fred grew up in Colorado, Garden City and Ingalls, Kansas. At the age of 12 he began working at a local feedyard. He was also employed by Murdock Oilfield, J&J, and retired from driving a cattle truck cross country. Fred married Geneva Day on July 1, 1968 in Elkhart, Kansas. He enjoyed tinkering with hot rods and was passionate about 4-wheeling in Moab, Utah.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva of their home; daughter, Deborah (Baxter) King of Guymon, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and numerous family and friends.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don Baxter; and son, Brian Lee (Baxter) Day.

Memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, November 01, 2014 at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Elkhart, Kansas with Reverend Gary Murrell officiating. The family requests memorials be given to the Fred Baxter Friendship Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.
