Obituary for Kathleen "Kate" Novack

Kathleen “Kate” Novack, 87 died Thursday, October 2, 2014 at the Kearny County Hospital in Lakin, Kansas. She was born April 9, 1927 in Kinsley, Kansas the daughter of Alphonsus & Helena (Hahn) Danler.

Kate grew up in the Kinsley area and attended schools there. On June 19, 1945 she married John M. Novack at North Offerle, Kansas. They lived in the Windthorst, Kansas area before moving to Dodge City. They later moved to Holcomb, Kansas in the early 1950’s and then to Deerfield in 1956. A homemaker, Kate enjoyed cooking, sewing, bowling, dancing, playing cards, traveling, shopping and spending time with her family. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church of Deerfield; the Altar Society; ABC Bowling; and the Eagle’s Lodge.

Survivors include five sons Gary & (Mabel) Novack of Kansas City, Ks, Danny & (Jolene) Novack of Garden City, Ks., Dave Novack of Ingalls, Ks., Tim & (Deana) Novack of Lakin, Ks., and Kevin & (Beatrice) Novack of Deerfield, Ks.; six daughters Belinda & (Tom) Phillips of Salina, Ks., Pat Parker of Liberal, Ks., Cindy & (Mike) Rivers of Holcomb, Ks., Debbie & (Don) Pollom of Topeka, Ks., Colleen & (Ed) Dewey of Rossville, Ks., and Kim & (Travis) Leonard of Holcomb, Ks.; three sisters Emma Brungardt of Garden City, Ks., Helen Haberman of Larned, Ks., and RoseAnn Hawley of Scandia, Mn.; 88 grandchildren; and 91 great grandchildren. Kate is preceded in death by her husband John who died on October 9, 2002. She is also preceded in death by three sons John Novack, Joseph Novack, and James Novack; a grandson Phillip Novack; three great granddaughters Adryon Knoll, Madison Parker, and Raelyn Maddux; four brothers Sylvester “Bud” Danler, Leonard Danler, Melvin Danler, and Laverne “Butch” Danler; and two sisters Mary Elmore and Theresa Wilerson.

Vigil service and rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City. Funeral Mass will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, October 6, 2014 also at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City with Fr. Mike Helms as Celebrant. Burial will follow at the Deerfield Cemetery in Deerfield, Kansas. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. on 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and from Noon to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family requests memorials given to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
