Obituary for Carl Dean Tucker

Carl Dean Tucker, age 90, of Elkhart, Kansas, died Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Morton County Care Center, Elkhart, Kansas. He was born March 6, 1924, south of Wilburton in Morton County Kansas the son of Orrel Michael and Gertrude (Odell) Tucker.

Carl graduated from Wilburton High School and attended Kansas State University until he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served during WWII in the Third Armored Division, surviving the Battle of the Bulge and obtained the rank of Staff Sargent. Then he was in the Army Reserves and was called up for service during the Korean Conflict. Carl married Olga D. Durham on July 24, 1948 in Pratt, Kansas. She preceded him in death March 29, 2006. He was a lifelong farmer/rancher and avid hunter. Carl was on the Board of Directors of First National Bank, Elkhart, Kansas for 29 years, was a member of VFW Point Rock Post #3162 Elkhart, Kansas, named Kansas Master Farmer, was a past President and Board member of USD #218, served on the Elkhart Cemetery Board, the Morton County ASCS Board, lifetime NRA member, and was a lifelong member of the Elkhart Methodist Church.

He married Freda Murray on February 17, 2007 at Elkhart. She survives

Other survivors include three daughters; Connie Cantrell and husband Bob of Pensacola, Florida, Bonnie Brown and husband Steve of Houston, Texas, Diann Gerstner and husband Chris of Colby, Kansas, brother, Bill and Sue Tucker of Elkhart, Kansas, Sisters-in-Laws, Annabelle Long and Katy Tucker both of Elkhart, Kansas, eight grandchildren and five great-granddaughters.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Olga (Durham) Tucker, infant son, Phillip Tucker, two brothers, James and Allen Tucker.

Funeral service will be held Monday, July 14, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Elkhart, Kansas, with Reverend Dennis Reimer officiating. Interment will follow at the Elkhart Cemetery, Elkhart, Kansas with military rites conducted by VFW Point Rock Post #3162. Friends may call on Sunday July 13, 2014 from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart, Kansas. Memorials may be given to Wounded Warrior Project, Elkhart United Methodist Church, or Morton County Historical Society Museum in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 854. Elkhart, Kansas, 67950.
