Obituary for Ferne L. Horton

Ferne L. Horton, 87 of Lakin, Kansas died Sunday, April 20, 2014 at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin, Kansas. She was born March 28, 1927 in Carroll County, Iowa the daughter of Clarence Edward & Marien Louise (Steigerwalt) Dickson.
Ferne grew up in the Carroll County, Iowa area and attended schools there. She graduated from Carroll High School in Carroll, Iowa. On September 20, 1945 she married George O. Horton in Milford, Iowa. They later moved to the Dumas, Texas area in 1968 and have lived in Lakin since 1970. A homemaker, Ferne also worked with her husband in their farming and custom harvesting business. She enjoyed handy work, fishing, and gardening.
Survivors include a son George R. Horton of Sun City, Arizona; and a grandson George R.
Horton, Jr. of Peoria, Arizona. Ferne is preceded in death by her husband George who died on August 17, 1997. She is also preceded in death by an infant sister; two other sisters Betty Ann Oller and Ruth E. Brown; and two brothers Robert C. Dickson and Ronald E. Dickson.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Lakin Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9:00 a.m. to service time Thursday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin. The family requests memorials given to Kearny County Home Health in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Lakin.
