Richard "Dick" Wayne Talbert, age 57, died December 27, 2008 at Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, Texas. He was born April 10, 1951 in Elkhart, Kansas the son of Henry and Lela (Whisennand) Talbert. He attended Yarbrough School, graduating in 1969. Dick excelled in basktball, football and track. He was active in 4-H Club where he raised calves and showed them at the county fair. Always loving livestock and riding horses, Dick also won many ribbons with his show horse, Babe. From a very young age, Dick had a passion for farming and raising cattle. He worked alongside his Dad and AC Thrash until graduating from high school after which he attended Liberal Junior College. Later, he returned to working with his Dad for the remainder of his life. Dick was extremely competitive and hard working. He loved playing practical jokes and having a good time. Dick presented the image of being a very tough man but inwardly was a sensitive, caring person. Dick married Josie Fernandez in 2002. She survives.


Other survivors include four daughters, Jamie Wyrick and husband Patrick of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Tami Shearer and husband Robert of Mendon, Nebraska, Kelli Carver and husband David of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and Arian Talbert of Eufaula, Oklahoma; one son, Shawn Talbert and wife Della of Boonesville, Arkansas; step-daughter, Matilda and husband Jerry Winkler; step-son, Anthony Augilar; one brother, Lane Talbert of Keyes, Oklahoma; one sister, Sandra Kay Kersey of El Paso, Texas; 18 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.


Dick was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Lewis Talbert; and one grandson, Cory Wayne Talbert.
